It's good to be the goalie

2009-08-16

Baltimore Youth Hockey will offer special goalie clinics this summer and all season long with GDI Goalie Training

Goalie instructors Ryan Honick and Greg Valiquette of the Goaltender Development Institute conducted their second summer goalie clinic Sunday, Aug. 16, at the Reisterstown Sportsplex rink.  Ten Baltimore Stars goalies, Mites to Midgets, and an equal number from the Susquehanna Rapids, our sister organization, were able to attend. BYH Hockey director Boe Leslie and Neumann College women's varsity goalie Amanda Houck, a BYH alumnus, joined several volunteers on the ice.

All Baltimore Stars goalies will receive special training during the 2009-2010 season with GDI Hockey. Next up: A one-day intense minicamp in September, followed by goalie clinics every three weeks throughout the season. Watch for dates.
This is professional goalie training at its best, and we're pleased to offer this to all goalies registered with our club at no additional charge. The in-season clinics will be arranged in two sessions, one for 12-and-under goalies, the other for 14-and-up.

Please contact GDI Southeast Regional Manager Ryan Honick at rhonick@gdihockey.com or (757) 641-9515 for further information.

The Baltimore Stars want to do all we can to support our goalies and improve their training, and we want to encourage players who are interested in the position to give it a try. Boys and girls who master this position are invaluable to their teams and have great opportunity in the world of hockey at the youth, prep, college and adult levels.

Here is what we offer in summer and 2009-2010 season:
  • Professional training with GDI Hockey.
  • The club is providing this professional training, free of any extra charge to our goalies.
  • You get: two summer clinics, a September goalie minicamp and seven in-season clinics -- about one every three weeks.
  • Watch for notices about when these occur.
  • Some of the in-season clinics will be held on Saturdays, others on Tuesday evenings.

    For new or developing goalies:
  • If you gave the position a try this past season, or if you wish to give it a try this coming season, please give us a call. We want to know how serious you are about advancing your commitment to the position and about off-season training.
  • We will set you up for some individual one-on-one training at Reisterstown, whatever works out conveniently for you and our goalie coaches this spring and summer. We can provide whatever equipment you need to get started or to advance.
